SSC has announced approximately 12,256 tentative vacancies. Based on previous recruitment cycles, the final vacancy count may increase after departments report additional vacancies. Many aspirants expect the final number to reach around 15,000 vacancies, although this is currently an estimate and not an official figure.
| Vacancies | Competition |
|---|---|
| 12,256 (Tentative) | ≈ 253 Candidates per Vacancy |
| 15,000 (Expected Final) | ≈ 206 Candidates per Vacancy |
👥 Total Applications: 30,94,823
🏢 Tentative Vacancies: 12,256
🎯 Competition: 1 Seat for Every ~253 Applicants
Looking only at the total number of applications can be misleading. Not every applicant will appear for the examination. Among those who appear, many will not have completed the syllabus or revised adequately. Competition is intense, but serious preparation still makes a significant difference.
Historically, the number of applicants is much higher than the number of candidates who actually appear for the examination. Even among those who appear, preparation levels vary widely. Candidates who practice consistently, take mock tests and improve their calculation speed often perform much better than the average applicant.

SSC CGL 2026 has attracted nearly 31 lakh applications. With around 12,256 tentative vacancies, the competition is undoubtedly high. However, vacancies may increase before the final result, and not every applicant will eventually compete at the same level. Instead of worrying about the number of applicants, aspirants should focus on improving their preparation, speed and consistency.
